Transform your room's style with Tartan Roman Blinds. We want you to feel confident in your measuring skills, so we've created this comprehensive guide to help you measure accurately for your new blinds. Decide whether you want your blinds to sit inside or outside the window recess before taking measurements. To ensure precision, always use a metal tape measure, as cloth or plastic tapes may stretch and result in inaccurate measurements. Provide measurements in full centimeters, rounding down if your measurement falls between two whole centimeters. If you're measuring in inches, please measure to the nearest quarter inch and round down.

Please note that blinds wider than 150 cm/59 inches will have visible seams, but don't worry - these seams will be perfectly matched with the stripe in your chosen tartan. Our guide not only provides measuring advice but also helps you choose the best tartan fabric for your new decor.

Where to Measure: Inside or Outside the Window Recess?

Prior to measuring for new blinds, choose placement: inside or outside recess, or on a wooden architrave. Personal preference and window style drive this decision, offering flexibility for a customized look.

Blinds Size Guide

Inside a Window Recess

  • Measure the recess length, from top to bottom
  • Measure the width at the top, where the blind will be installed
  • Take width measurements at the middle and bottom of the recess
  • Record the lowest width measurement to prevent sagging when lowering the blind

Outside a Window Recess

Decide where to fix the batten for the blind above the window recess:

  • Measure the length from the desired position above the window to the desired finished length.
  • For the width, consider these options:
    1. Measure the width of the architrave at its widest point if present.
    2. Measure the width of the window sill if applicable.
    3. If there is no architrave, measure the width of the opening at its widest point and add 12cm to give a 6cm overlap on each side.

This ensures a perfect fit for your blind, tailored to your window's specific style and measurements.

Bay Windows

  • Determine blind depth, accounting for mechanism and 6 cm for brackets.
  • Mark blind depth at bay angles on ceiling or sill.
  • Intersection of marks indicates where blinds align.
  • Measure between marked points to determine blind width.
  • Start by measuring the central blind.
  • Lengths measured conventionally; for widths, allow space for smooth operation.
  • Achieve precise and functional blind installation by following these steps for a seamless and professional outcome in your bay window.
