I've had my Masonic tartan kilt for a couple of years now, and enjoy wearing it very much! The fit is perfect, and the lightness of the material work great in our southwest Louisiana climate!

The kilt and sash in Montgomery plaid, arrived from Pakistan with courteous updates and great customer service.
Sadly the odor of chemicals when opened the package made me ill within an hour. Headache and nausea - I was afraid to wash the fabric, and the dry cleaner did not want to take it. It seemed “stiff” with impregnated “something”.
As I am allergic to chemicals, I am trying to get a refund.
Have noted the USA return address on the east coast, also called the number connected to it and actually spoke with a live person - who responded to my email.
My case is being reviewed - but as I cannot give these away or wear them myself, I will be sending them the east coast return address within a week, so that the odor can be experienced first hand.
I am disappointed - and saddened to write this. I note that others have had a similar experience.
If using a chemical is standard to prevent damage to the fabric - i suggest the manufacturer stops this - it is not acceptable and very very unpleasant.
Sincerely and sorry to feel I need to write this review.

QUESTIONS FRÉQUEMMENT POSÉES
What are Scottish Bagpipes?
Scottish bagpipes are traditional musical instruments known for their distinctive sound, often associated with Scottish culture and heritage. The instrument consists of a bag, made from animal hide or synthetic materials, which stores air, and multiple pipes that produce sound when the player blows air into the bag and squeezes it. The most well-known type is the Great Highland Bagpipe, typically used in parades, ceremonies, and festivals. Historically, bagpipes were used in battle to rally troops, and today, they remain a symbol of national pride, adding a unique musical element to Scottish events and celebrations.
What are the parts of a Scottish bagpipe?
A Scottish bagpipe consists of several key parts that work together to create its distinct sound. The bag is typically made from animal hide or synthetic materials, storing air supplied by the piper. The blowpipe is used to blow air into the bag. The chanter, with finger holes, produces the melody. The drones, usually three (one bass and two tenor), provide a continuous harmonic background. The reed in both the chanter and drones vibrates to produce sound. Lastly, the stocks are the connecting pieces that hold the pipes securely to the bag.
Are Scottish bagpipes difficult to play?
Scottish bagpipes are considered challenging to play due to their unique structure and technique. Unlike many wind instruments, bagpipes require the player to maintain constant air pressure using a bag that must be inflated while simultaneously controlling the airflow. This requires a lot of coordination between the fingers, breath control, and maintaining the correct posture. Additionally, mastering the grace notes and embellishments, which are essential to traditional Scottish bagpipe music, takes time and practice. While difficult, with dedication and proper guidance, the Scottish bagpipes can become a rewarding instrument to master.
Where are Scottish bagpipes typically played?
Scottish bagpipes are typically played at a variety of formal and traditional events, reflecting Scotland's rich cultural heritage. They are most commonly seen during parades, festivals, and military ceremonies, such as the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and Highland Games. Bagpipes are also a staple at weddings, funerals, and clan gatherings, symbolizing honor and reverence. Additionally, these instruments are an iconic presence at historical reenactments and celebrations of national significance like St. Andrew's Day. The melodic sound of bagpipes evokes strong ties to Scottish tradition, making them an essential part of the country's musical identity.
How do you maintain Scottish bagpipes?
Maintaining Scottish bagpipes involves regular care to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Begin by cleaning the instrument after each use, wiping down the exterior to remove moisture and oils. Keep the bag well-conditioned with seasoning to maintain airtightness. Regularly check and replace the hemp on joints to ensure a snug fit. The reeds should be inspected frequently for wear and replaced when necessary to maintain sound quality. Store the bagpipes in a dry environment, avoiding extreme temperatures. Proper maintenance not only preserves the instrument but also enhances its overall performance.
