About this collection

Cargo Skirts with Utility Pockets

A cargo skirt borrows its detailing from workwear rather than from tailoring, which is what separates it from an ordinary skirt with pockets added. Patch or bellows pockets on the thigh, metal hardware, heavier stitching, and a cut that assumes you will be moving in it.

Fit matters differently here. A loose cargo skirt with full pockets migrates as you walk, so snug at the waist is better than roomy, with enough hip that a loaded pocket does not drag the hem out of line. Send waist, hip and length rather than a dress size.

For the same cut in woven tartan see tartan cargo skirts. Wear it with a fitted plain top and boots, since the skirt already carries the volume and the hardware, and avoid anything tailored.

Frequently asked questions

Real pockets, usually patch or bellows pockets on the thigh, plus utility hardware such as D rings, adjustable straps and heavier stitching. It borrows its detailing from workwear rather than from tailoring, which is what separates it from a plain skirt with pockets added.

A cargo skirt is an ordinary skirt with utility detailing, usually zipped or buttoned. A utility kilt wraps and fastens with straps and buckles and has pleats across the back. The kilt reads more distinctive. The cargo skirt reads more like everyday clothing.

Yes, that is the point of the category. They are sized for a phone, a wallet and keys rather than being decorative flaps, and the stitching at the corners is reinforced because a loaded pocket puts its whole weight on a few centimetres of seam.

A fitted plain top, since the skirt already carries the volume and the hardware, and boots or trainers. Keep everything solid. Tights or bare legs both work depending on length. Avoid pairing it with anything tailored, which fights the workwear register entirely.

At or just below the natural waist, with enough room at the hip that loaded pockets do not pull the skirt out of line. Send waist, hip and finished length. Loose is worse than snug here, since a loose cargo skirt with full pockets migrates as you walk.

A phone, a wallet and keys comfortably. They are sized for use rather than decoration, but a heavily loaded pocket pulls the hem out of line, so treat them as convenient rather than as a bag replacement. For the same cut in woven tartan, see tartan cargo skirts.
